Why your Threads bio matters
When one of your posts lands in someone’s feed and they get curious, the first thing they tap is your profile. That’s where they decide, in a couple of seconds, whether to follow or go back to scrolling. A bio that’s just a job title, a motivational quote or a row of emoji gives them no reason to follow. A good bio answers three questions at once: what you post about, who it’s for, and why they should trust you.
The Threads bio formula: niche + who you help + proof
- 1Niche. Name your topic in words people actually search for, not insider jargon. “Logo design tips” is clearer than “visual storyteller”.
- 2Who you help. The more specific, the better. “Helping Etsy sellers design their own logos” tells every Etsy seller this account is for them.
- 3Proof. Numbers, experience or real results: “5 years at an agency”, “200+ clients”, “0 to 10K followers”. Don’t have any yet? Share your journey honestly instead.
- 4Call to action (optional). Tell people what to do next: “DM ‘LOGO’ for a free template” or “New tips every Monday”.
Threads bio example: before and after
Before
“Graphic designer | Coffee lover ☕ | NYC”
Nobody knows what they get out of following.
After
“Helping Etsy sellers design their own logos, no designer needed 🎨 5 yrs agency. Tips every Monday.”
Clear topic, clear audience, plus proof and a posting schedule.
Threads bio ideas for business accounts
If your account sells a product or service, your bio is the storefront window. Say what you sell in your buyer’s words, who it’s for and how to order. “Healthy office lunches delivered in Austin, order via DM” sells far better than “Healthy food | Order now”.
The most common bio mistakes
- Too vague (“sharing random stuff”), so there’s no reason to follow.
- Making up claims or numbers. Threads users get suspicious fast, and once you're caught, trust is hard to win back.
- Your bio and your posts don’t match. The bio says “career tips”, the feed is all food pics.
- Never updating it. When your niche or offer changes, your bio has to change with it.
